Why am I receiving so much Spam? Is there anything I can do to prevent it or clean it up?
The best way to prevent spam is to prevent others from getting your email address. Spammers obtain email addresses from various sources including web crawlers that search web pages for email addresses, forms that have been filled out online for free offers or contests and from various mailing lists that are bought and sold. One mistake that many people often make is reply to a spam email asking to be removed from the list. Often times, spammers will include a link in the body of the email that the recipient can click on to have themselves "removed" from the list. NEVER, NEVER do this if you receive an email from a list you haven't subscribed too. Once you do this, your name instantly goes on a list of confirmed emails that is resold to more spammers. If you reply to a spam or ask to be removed from the list, your spam messages will increase exponentially. There are many ways to minimize spam:
1. Don't provide your email address to untrusted sources on the internet. This includes popup ads and free giveaway contests.
2. Never respond to an unsolicited spam email with a request to be removed from the mailing list.
3. Never install spyware onto your computer. See Question 5.
